The Oceans On Earth - 1284 Words
The oceans on earth are some of the most diverse areas around the globe and we are hurting it very badly. Lots of these oceans provide food and jobs for many people. When we pollute the ocean we are diminishing the life in these bodies of water. The oceans can not survive with trash much longer, so we need to do something about it, because we have all the resources and plenti of people to think of ways to help better protect this diverse ecosystem. The earth has many great features living among it. The ocean can be a very mysterious place that we donââ¬â¢t actually know all that much about. There are many problems facing our oceans today, such as: pollution and people throwing trash in our oceans. We can stop all of these problems through STEM. STEM covers Science Technology Engineering and Math, these four groups can fix many problems. When diving on a coral reef you can see many beautiful things, but one of the things you donââ¬â¢t want to see is plastic floating around and f ish swimming around it. This was one of the things I saw when I went to the Caribbean. The oceans are very beautiful places that donââ¬â¢t deserve the way we treat it. Burqas Should Not Be Banned Free Essays

A Burqa is an article of clothing that is generally considered as a religious statement. The Burqa consists of full robes and a mesh veil over the eyes. There are other options of robes that can be worn including the Hijab and the Niqab, where the eyes remain uncovered. According to come interpretations of the Islamic sacred text ââ¬â the Koran (Qurââ¬â¢an) ââ¬â women must wear a full veil in order to be modest. Many Muslims wear the Burqa because it is symbolises and is a part of their spiritual journey, so they wear it by choice. While others wear the Burqa because they believe they have to, as it is one of the commandments of god to dress modestly. There are many Muslims who choose not to wear the Burqa at all. They may opt for a simple headscarf and normal clothing; they also can wear the Hijab or Niqab. But then again there are many Muslims who choose to dress in normal clothes, therefore bringing no attention to their religion. Not wearing the headscarf or robes does not make a person any more religious, nor does wearing the Burqa make someone more religious than another Muslim who is not wearing any religious clothing at all. Just through reading articles A and B, we see that there is a lot of controversy involved in this topic, and something I would like to address is how we have the right to tell others how to dress when their clothing choice brings no harm upon us and is a completely individual and personal choice. The author ââ¬â Oumkheyr ââ¬â is a Muslim woman who wears the full Burqa by choice, and is being strongly threatened by the French Government where a ban of Burqas may soon be implemented. Oumkheyr says ââ¬Å"I really believe that France is scared of Muslims, which is the motivation for this law, but people shouldnââ¬â¢t generalize as not all Muslims are the same. Yes, some have done terrible things, but it is done in the name of man, never in the name of God. â⬠But, although in the Koran there are verses that say some hateful things like ââ¬Å"slay them wherever you catch themâ⬠(Quran 2:191), these quotes are taken completely out of context. The rest of that particular quote is as follows ââ¬Å"fight in the cause of God those who fight you, but do not transgress limits; for God loves not transgressors. And slay them wherever you catch them, and turn them out from where they have turned you out; for tumult and oppression are worse than slaughterâ⬠¦ But if they cease, God is Oft-forgiving, Most Mercifulâ⬠¦ If they cease, let there be no hostility except to those who practice oppressionâ⬠(2:190-193). The Koran gives messages of hope, faith and peace. Itââ¬â¢s easy to take something out of context and quote it, but it means that what was originally being said loses all meaning. Linking back to the Burqa ban, maybe the French government would stop being so scared of muslims if someone actually bothered to read the full quote. Oumkheyr makes some very strong points in her article, that everyone should take into consideration when deciding their personal opinion of the Burqa ban proposal. The second article, ââ¬ËThe Burqa is a war on womenââ¬â¢ addresses the reasoning for a ban. The author ââ¬â Virginia Haussegger ââ¬â has successfully outlined the views of many non-muslims. Within the first two lines Ms Haussegger has already accused the Burqa of subjectifying women, and stated that the reason for wearing the Burqa is what ââ¬ËGod Demandsââ¬â¢. What the author doesnââ¬â¢t seem to realise is that for the majority of muslims, wearing the Burqa is a personal choice, and most say they donââ¬â¢t think it is a ââ¬Ëdemandââ¬â¢ as such, but more of a way to become more in touch with god and the rest of their religion. Some Islamic tectsstate that women should dress modestly, but wearing the Burqa is the individualsââ¬â¢ decision, and it reflects on the individualsââ¬â¢ values and beliefs about the word ââ¬Ëmodestyââ¬â¢. This article brings up many points about equality. Saying that while ââ¬Ëmen roam free while women wear a sackcloth that dehumanises them. Although it is true that Muslim men do not walk around shrouded head to toe, this is for a reason that Haussegger seems to have forgotten: womenââ¬â¢s bodies are constantly being subjectified and having their bodies sexualized, and men are not. Although this is not necersarily the ââ¬Ëpolitically correctââ¬â¢ thing to say, it is the truth, and wearing the Burqa is a way for this to stop. The author does have some very valid points on the subject of actual legitimacy of the commandment about the Burqa, but even if the Koran does not state ââ¬ËWomen must cover their face and bodies to hide from public viewââ¬â¢, the Burqa, Hijab, and Niqab are just clothes. By reading these articles it is clear to see that both authors are fighting for the rights of Muslim women. Although Virginia Haussegger clearly believes that by wearing the Burqa women are being further objectified, both authors agree that what we wear is our choice and no one elses. Muslims live by their holy text and if the individual interprets its commandments to believe that to be a good muslim you must wear the burqa, then that it their choice, and freedom of choice is a human right that we should all have. What Haussegger sadly doesnââ¬â¢t appear to understand is that no matter how a Muslim chooses to dress, their beliefs are the same and they are living by the same god, so banning one article of clothing cannot change how the individual will behave. My opinion on the Burqa is that although the outfit may be somewhat demeaning, it is a personal choice that I will never fully understand. Now that I have done further research into the topic I understand the choices and decisions that are made when the Burqa is concerned, and I am definitely more open to other peopleââ¬â¢s opinions. I think it is completely unreasonable for non-muslims to call a ban on the Burqa as it is a human right that we are free to express ourselves however we see fit, and if this is how some Muslims choose to express their religion, then good for them. Research Problem With the time passing by the global market has become really small with each and every organization having access to all kinds of resources in the market. In this scenario it is important that the companies focus on having an effective workforce that can help a company to gain competitive advantage in the market (Zanoni et al., 2010). Since the global market has extended its barriers effectively the collection of talent has also got extended and hence within an organisation one can see huge diversity especially in terms of workforce. With diversified workforce a company like Tesco could gain competitive advantage but it can also affect the productivity of the company if not managed effectively and hence the present study will try to highlight the key challenges of managing workforce diversity and its impact on the business (Barak, 2013). What are the possible strategies to improve workforce diversity? Literature Review Workforce diversity is one of the key subjects in the contemporary human resource management. It is important that workforce diversity is managed effectively by the human resource department of an organization or else it might have several implications on the business. Workforce diversity management has become a subject of growing importance in the business sectors since it has a very positive impact if handled effectively and vice versa (Shore et al., 2009). Workforce diversity in a simple way means the management of the workforce who are coming from the different backgrounds culture, caste, race, creed and color. In Tesco there are employees working from different ethnic groups which makes the company an interesting subject. It is extremely important for the human resource managers to focus on handling the different employees coming from the different regions in the world effectively. It could be said that workforce management becomes tougher when it comes to managing different kin ds of people within an organisation. Effective workforce diversity management could help to increase the productivity of the company (Thomas, 2012). There are different challenges that can affect the management of the workforce diversity. One of the most common challenges that managers have to face is prejudice. Prejudice among the employees to work with different groups from various cultures. Discrimination is also a key challenge where people have grown up with common dogma which at times affects the environment within an organisation. It could be said that discrimination can affect the productivity of the company Tesco. There have been number of problems regarding workforce diversity in Tesco which has apparently affected the company and its productivity. Hence it could be said that the challenges which the company has faced in regards to workforce diversity is directly responsible for its development or decline. It could be said that challenges in managing workforce diversity ca n negatively affect the business of Tesco (Zanoni et al., 2010). Methods Type of Investigation Using the right kind of methods for completing a study is extremely important for the researcher. In the present study the researchers has opted to go with a explanatory type of research as it will help to discuss and explain the key variables of the research and will also help to complete the research study successfully. There are commonly three different types of research design namely exploratory, explanatory and descriptive. For the present study the explanatory type of research is effective since it will not generate any new theory and is only focused on testing the hypothesis and the validity of the existing theories. On the other hand the present research will use the post positivist philosophy which will help to do the research merging both scientific reasoning and common sense. On the other hand this research will have a deductive approach to the research so that it can discuss the existing articles and theories which will help to prove the hypothesis of the research (Taylor et al., 2015). Research Strategy There are different research strategies namely survey, interview contextual research strategy. For the present research the researcher has taken up case study research strategy which will help the researcher to cover up the objectives effectively and complete the research successfully (Panneerselvam, 2014). Sampling and Sample Size There are two key types of sampling techniques probability sampling and non-probability sampling. For the present research both kinds of sampling methods are used. For choosing the respondents for the research the researcher has used the probability sampling technique in order to keep the choice unbiased. On the other hand to choose the managers of Tesco it could be said the researcher has applied convenient sampling technique as the researcher is lacking time and will use the non probability sampling. The chosen sample size of the research is 60 where 55 employee of Tesco will be used as respondents and 5 managers will be used (Flick, 2015). Data Collection The present study will use the primary research technique where both quantitative and qualitative data will be used. For the quantitative data online questionnaire would be set for the respondents which will be distributed to them, on the other hand for the qualitative data different articles and secondary sources will be used as well as the managers will be interviewed (Taylor et al., 2015). Data Analysis The quantitative data will be analysed with the help of software like SPSS and MS Excel and Pearson Correlation Table will be used to the see the correlation between the variables. On the other hand descriptive analysis will be used to analyse the qualitative data (Flick, 2015). Ethical Consideration The present study will have to consider different ethical aspects. The present study will not use any of its information commercially, it will not intimidate any respondents to get involved in the research, and it will make them understand the purpose of the research (Panneerselvam, 2014). Expected Outcomes The present study is likely to give results regarding the impact of challenges of managing workforce diversity and its impact on the organisation, as well as reveal the key aspects of workforce diversity.
